Our mission at SHIFT Dance Collective is to be a vessel through which artists involved can establish genuine connections with each other and our community of audiences. With our works, we look to bring to light and express important internal and external social Conflicts and injustices. While SHIFT is predominantly dance-focused, we draw heavily on exploring diverse collaborative effort from other artistic mediums such as music, visual art, spoken word, and more

SHIFT Dance Collective was established in March of 2017 by Director and Choreographer, Gabriella Bruno. SHIFT is a collaborative that also acts and performs as a dance company throughout New York City. We are made up of dancers from all over the world who have studied in different genres. We come together to do movement research, share our stories, and create works that will provoke minds and spark change in the world. We are shape-shifters, constantly asking and adapting to the idea - what will our bodies do when our minds start to SHIFT?

Gabriella Bruno is a dancer and choreographer from Northern California. She has studied all genres of dance, including tap, jazz, ballet, modern, hip-hop, contemporary, world dance, and musical theater. In 2014, she received her BFA in Dance Performance from Chapman University. Gabriella graduated Magna Cum Laude with a minor in English. In addition to running her own company, SHIFT Dance Collective, she has performed in California and throughout NYC with other dance companies such as Tap Overload, Suku Dance Lab, and Psychosomatic Dance. She also had the honor of being a principle dancer in Keomi Tarver's hit production of, Love and War, in 2016. Gabriella works as a Dance Teaching Artist and Art Therapy Coordinator in Brooklyn.
